Gearing Up for Adventure!!

Hello,

I hope you are excited about our upcoming trip to Turkey. This will be a great trip.
SW Indiana will be well represented on the trip. We will have a couple coming from Terre Haute Indiana and Indiana State University. Two people coming from Evansville, Indiana.
Also we will have a KCU student whose home is in Daviess country Indiana
Of course I am an old Hoosier (but from the cold tundra in NW Indiana) but now reside in the Bluegrass state. My wife was also born in what I call “The Promised Land.”
We will have representatives from the Far East the Snows live in Bangkok so they will be flying west while we fly east.

For some good information on Turkey check out this site

Here is a good book to get to prepare for our trip

It is colorful and informative with some great maps and pictures.

For some historical perspective on Turkey this is a good introduction

We will have a great time on our trip.

If you are looking for a movie or two to watch to get you in the spirit of the trip, here’s a couple you can find at Netflicks or maybe your local rental place.
They just might warm you up on a snowy night (or ironically for the Snows, Istanbul will appear cool and comfortable)

Topkapi

This is a movie set in Istanbul about a heist at the famous Topkapi Palace (which we will visit)

From Russia with Love

Here 007 is chased around Istanbul by Russian agents.

The International

Interpol agents travel through Europe tracking down evil international bankers. Some of the final scenes are shot in the Old City of Istanbul on rooftops.

So you get the general idea that Istanbul is filled with excitement and intrigue as well as beautiful architecture and scenery.

I will post this information on the blog for the trip.

As for other issues, some of you asked about visas. We will obtain our visas in the airport in Istanbul, that will be no problem.
As to the situation in Egypt, I do not expect that to affect our trip. Turkey is a progressive Republic and is quite stable politically.

Let me know if you have any questions.
